Valve doesn't have a team actively managing the network and servers 24/7. We have a very small team (2) that is on call pretty much all the time to deal with the server and network issues as they occur. So when things go wrong in the middle of the night our time, it can take us a bit of time to react to it. We are actively trying to grow the team. So if you think you have what it takes to smartly manage a global network across a dozen datacenters and also be responsible for thousands of physical servers and the applications running on them, then drop me a line. I could always do with another person to back me up。
